Listening and hearing are very different
Listening involves actively positioning oneself to hear and to learn something
Hearing is an act of the senses but listening is an act of the will
James 1:19 says Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to angeranger
And Proverbs 2 (NLT) has some good verses
Listen to Me and treasure my instructions
Tune your ears to wisdom and concentrate on understanding
Cry out for insight and understanding
Search for them as you would for lost money or hidden treasure
For the Lord grants wisdom and from His mouth come knowledge & understanding
Then wisdom will enter your heart and knowledge will fill you with joy
Some will say - you look but you don't see.
You hear but you don't listen
Don't let that be said of you
Be intentional in your seeing and your listening
