Psalm 119 is a brilliant psalm when read in The Message Bible
and some of my favourite phrases from it are
I'm a stranger in these parts - give me clear directions
because if we are constantly going forward with God
we should always be in new places and needing His direction
and that is one of the ways He keeps us pressing into Him
My sad life's dilapidated, a falling down barn, build me up again by Your Word
Yes - David's life seems rubbish to him at that point
and we can be the same sometimes
but at least he knows that it is God's Word that will build him up again
and not some crutch like comfort food, drink, TV, sport
or whatever it is that makes you feel good
It is only the Word of God that can do a real work in us
the rest is just a temporary fix
Your truth never goes out of fashion
it's as up-to-date as the earth when the sun comes up
Not like the politics of the day; the fashions of the moment
the morals of the generation or the food fads just now
No - God's truth never goes out of fashion
and the values that were relevant for kingdom life 2,000 years ago
still hold good for today
and will still be good for every day to come
