Beyond the outer appearance

I read this in a novel - where a regular guy is talking to a Jewish guy
"What's the deal with this clothing?
How come you all dress alike?"
"Well what makes us different from each other is not the designer shirt we wear
or an expensive suit, or anything on the outside.
What makes us different from each other is ....
what's inside !! - our true selves; our soul.
That's what shines out.
If the outside becomes irrelevant, if we all look the same
then people truly start to see the inside!"
And I really liked that
Partly because we can often judge from lack of understanding
i.e. not knowing that deeper reason why they all wear the same clothes
and looking like they have a uniform
But also because it's really true and maybe we should all wear the same thing
something simple; straight forward and easy !!
It would - like they say - cause us to see the inner being
and it would save money on the simpler clothing
and save time on not having to decide what to wear !!!
