God's Training Schools

The Training Schools of God
Are not the places of excellence
Like schools of learning in the world
Not your Oxford or your Cambridge
Or your Harvard from abroad
With their prestige and their honour
the giddy lifestyles of excess
N0 - the Training Schools of God
are empty pits and whales bellies
desert experiences and dark caves
Stripped of all the trappings
all the comforts we enjoy
Pared down to raw essentials
or even less for some I know
With the winds of injustice blowing fiercely in your face
Showers of doubt & misgivings
boulders of unfairness on which we stub our toe
But with the lack of props and crutches
and the artificial supports we put in place
God has us where He wants us
leaning only into Him
Drawing close and listening
to the teacher of our souls
Hearing the voice that whispers
the ways of life and truth
Knowing the hand that sculpts us
and shapes us as we stay
close to the loving Shepherd
who so recently walked this way

I've worked quite a bit with Universities and even studied at one of the 3 you mentioned, and I'm finding more and more that they are not as great as society likes to think they are. Also, in the Christian scene, we often need to acknowledge that we "do not need anyone to teach us" (1 John 2 v 27). If we give others too much place in our lives (failing to give God his place in teaching us), we can be wasting our time, or, worse still, be led astray. Yes, God's training schools really are the best!
